Students and alumni to meet prospective employers at Big 12 Virtual Career Fair

Iowa State University students and alumni seeking job opportunities and internships will connect with more than 100 prospective employers during the Big 12 Virtual Career Fair, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Daylight Time, Wednesday, March 27.

Job applicants and employers can participate in the online-only fair from almost anywhere as long as they have a computer or mobile device with internet access.

"We tell job seekers 'the more ways they job search the better,'" said Amanda Schickel, recruiting and career coordinator in the College of Human Sciences career services office who is co-coordinating the event for Iowa State’s constituency. "This career fair provides opportunities to further your network, avoid unnecessary travel, and use your search time efficiently."

Employers are turning to virtual job fairs to expand their reach. At the Big 12 event, participating employers will staff chat rooms for visiting with job candidates in real time. Some will also offer audio and video conferencing.

"We encourage students to register early," Schickel said. "Once they register and log in, they can view a tutorial on how the fair works. They can also upload a resume, see which employers will participate, and indicate which employers they would like to meet."

Not all employers will be available throughout the entire event.

"Registrants can check the chat schedule to see in advance when each employer will be logged in." Schickel said. "That way they can plan their day accordingly."

To register, visit careereco.com/events/big12. Although job seekers are encouraged to register early, they can do so up through the day of the event.

All students and alumni of the participating Big 12 universities can register and attend free of charge. Besides Iowa State, participating universities include Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Christian, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.

For participants connecting via mobile devices, some capabilities will be limited. Participants seeking technical assistance should phone 770-980-0088 or email help@careereco.com to receive help from CareerEco, the company that is providing the fair's online platform.
