My study abroad program to Ireland was my first time traveling overseas and I wish I could go back. If I could repeat this trip I would in a heartbeat. I met many incredible fellow Kinesiology students here at Iowa State who attended the trip as well. During the first half of the trip we had various informative lectures at two universities in Dublin, Ireland. It was great interacting and learning from many intellectual individuals. The second half of the trip involved hiking and sightseeing. The Irish countryside is absolutely beautiful and I certainly took many pictures. We lucked out and had great weather on the days when we were outside exploring the scenic sites. When the two and a half week trip was over I was sad to leave Ireland.
I first learned about this international trip through my Kin 253 freshman orientation class. This trip appealed to me since it was only two and a half weeks, rather than an entire semester.
An impact to my life...
This experience is one I will cherish forever. I have always wanted to study abroad and this was an amazing opportunity. After traveling overseas for the first time, it inspired me to make a goal to see as many countries as possible throughout my lifetime. I had many great educational experiences on this trip, such as visiting a physiotherapy office, experiencing a BodPod, and hearing about some research being done in Ireland. Learning about Ireland's version of Kinesiology was interesting and I can apply what I learned in my future career, as an Occupational Therapist.
I will never forget...
My most memorable experience would have to be hiking Croagh Patrick. This mountain was supposedly the mountain that St. Patrick hiked and then fasted on for forty days. After this hike I sure did not want to fast...I wanted water and lots of ice cream. Before this trip, I had never hiked a mountain before, so this was quite the adventure. The view from the top was definitely worth the sweat and tired legs.
Advice for others...
I would tell other students to just do it! Studying abroad is a great college experience and you will not regret it. Immerse yourself in the culture and don't be afraid to talk to others. It is crazy the unique individuals you will interact with and meet while abroad. Enjoy every moment since your trip won't last forever and take many pictures.
