The classroom was beautiful and we were given plenty of free time to explore the city. When we were in Rome, our apartment was 40 minutes away from the classroom, but the walk allowed us to see areas of the city I wouldn't have normally seen. Overall, my experience was good. I had a great teacher to help guide me, and I had a great experience with roommates and building friendships.
I received an email informing me about the trip.
An impact to my life...
This trip was phenomenal, personally I feel confident enough to plan trips like this in the future and venture off on my own. It was extremely rewarding to have navigated through Rome on my own, and I have definitely grown as an individual. I have also made great friends over this trip and I am so happy to have spent this time with them. Professionally, I will now strive to incorporate disciplinary literacy into my teaching. I feel comfortable explaining what DL is and ways to use it on my own.
I will never forget...
My most memorable experience is spending time in the classrooms. I loved seeing the Italian school system and interacting with the kids, they were all so great!
Advice for others...
My advice is to do it. Traveling abroad with people you may not be friends with seems scary, but you become friends with these individuals as you are learning how to do this together. I was contemplating not even coming I was so nervous, but I am so glad I did it. If you plan a weekend away you learn how to travel on your own, and you learn how to navigate in a foreign country. Step outside of your comfort zone and just do it!
