Developing a study abroad program

Thanks for your interest in leading a College of Human Sciences study abroad program! The resources on this page will help you to get started with the process.

Getting started

The CHS International Programs Office is available to support you with study abroad program development and coordination from your initial idea to the final report at the end of a successful program. Contact Erin French, CHS Director of International Programs, to set up an appointment to discuss your idea. You should also review the development timeline (PDF) and visioning checklist (PDF) in preparation for your appointment. Each semester, Leading a CHS Study Abroad Program workshops are offered, and future sessions will be listed on the upcoming events calendar.

Register interest to lead a study abroad program

The CHS International Programs Office asks that you register your interest to lead a program to aid overall strategic planning for international activities in the college and to assist with the development, promotion, and coordination of your study abroad opportunity. Registering interest is required for all new and repeat CHS study abroad programs.
Calls for interest in leading a study abroad program are based on the planned term of your proposed program, and there are multiple calls per year. Register your interest by completing a brief questionnaire at ISUAbroad.

Site visits

The College of Human Sciences is committed to offering a diverse portfolio of engaging, innovative, and sustainable study abroad experiences led by faculty members who are experienced and knowledgeable about their program destination’s culture, activities, and local partners. Faculty members interested in leading a program must complete a site visit as part of the program development process, and the CHS International Programs Committee offers the Site Visit Grant Program to assist potential leaders with fulfilling this requirement.
