AESHM’s famous cherry pies

Cherry pies are being sold Monday from 10-4 at the dining room entrance of the Joan Bice Underwood Tearoom, 23 MacKay Hall. Pies are $2 each. They will also be sold at 11-1 Tuesday or until sold out. If still available, pies will be sold from 11:50 to 12:50 during normal Tearoom hours the rest of the week until sold out. 

Monday

What: Celebrate CHS - FREE fruit giveaway
When: 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Where: Around campus
Description: Student Dietetics Association will be handing out free fruit around campus, promoting healthy eating, having breakfast, and the start of Human Sciences Week with HEALTHY EATING TIPS handouts.

What: Yoga and Yogurt
When: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Where: 0196 Forker
Description: ExerCYse is Medicine Club will collaborate with ISU Dance Professors Janice Baker and Cynthia Adams to host yoga at Forker. Mats will be provided, or you can bring your own! There will be free yogurt after the event for the first 50 participants.

Grandpa Noodle Gallery
When: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Where: South Lawn of MacKay Hall
Description: Chinese cuisine. Noodles, rice, veggies and chicken. Grandpa Noodle Gallery was started by a CHS alum.

What: Study Abroad 101
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.
Where: 1009 LeBaron Hall
Description: Are you interested in studying abroad but don’t know where to start? This session will guide you through the benefits of studying abroad, types of programs available, who you should talk to about studying abroad, the application process, scholarships, and financial aid. You will also learn about study abroad opportunities sponsored or co-sponsored by the CHS International Programs Office.

What: Living a Balanced and Healthy Lifestyle

Description: BIEDA and SDA will talk about health at every size and intuitive eating versus traditional ‘healthy’ eating and dieting. Interactive discussion and activity regarding mindful eating

What: Brain Blurbs: Exploring "The Golden Touch" of Neuroscience on Human Health
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.
Where: 135 MacKay
Description: Graduate students of the neuroscience program will give a brief presentation about how their research in neuroscience benefits brain health and society.

What: LGBTQA+ Ally 101 
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.
Where: 2622 Lagomarcino 
Description: Human Development and Family Studies lecturer, Amy Popillion, will host a workshop focused on self-reflection of people's thoughts and impressions of the LGBTQ+ community, what information people need to become stronger allies, and becoming familiar with terminology related to gender and sexual identity.

What: Introducing the College's Human Scientists of Color
When: 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Where: 1009 LeBaron Hall
Description: Faculty of color in the College will introduce themselves and outline why they are a human scientist. Faculty will connect with students in a speed mentoring type of format to learn more about students' interests and highlight faculty professional experiences and journeys. Following is a reception for more networking.

What: Culinary Boot Camp
When: 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Where: 135 MacKay Hall
Description: Culinary Food Science Club in collaboration with ISU Dining will be coordinating a boot camp for students, faculty, and community to get cooking. This session is the first in a series of four sessions, all of which will take place at either MacKay Hall or Ames HyVee stores. The remaining three sessions will take place on Oct. 9, 16, and 23. There is a $15 fee to register. Upon completion of all four sessions, attendees will receive a $15 HyVee gift card. Learn more.

What: 2017 Iowa Teacher of the Year

Description: Q&A sessions with Shelly Vroegh, the 2017 Iowa Teacher of the year.

What: Food and Fun Fest
When: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Where: South Lawn of Mackay Hall
Description: This year's fest is ISU tailgating themed in cardinal and gold. The College of Human Sciences student clubs will be fundraising, selling tailgating themed side dishes and promoting their group while having fun! With the button purchase, you receive 1 ticket to purchase things from clubs! Human Sciences Student Council will coordinate a bags tournament.

What: Pie in the Face

Description: CHS Student Council will be doing a week-long competition for which Student Sensation will be pied. Council will get to pie the Student Sensation with the most money raised for United Way. Jars will be around campus to raise money up until the event.

What: Pizza and Packing
When: 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Where: 1009 LeBaron
Description: This year's philanthropy will help pack supplies for school teachers in King and Moulton Elementary Schools. It Starts with Soap and ISU 4 U Promise will collaborate by collecting supplies in local businesses, like Target. Donations will be accepted up until the event. Students will pack care packages and write thank you notes to teachers. Pizza will be served.

Wednesday

What: Study Abroad Fair
When: 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Where: LeBaron 1009
Description: Faculty members will be available to talk about the study abroad opportunities they are leading, College of Human Sciences International Programs Office staff members will be available to answer general questions about studying abroad, and students will circulate among tables and discuss opportunities.

What: Student Wellness Gazebo

Description: Peer wellness educators from the Student Wellness Center will interact with students and share favorite ways of eating from around the world.

What: Healthiest State Walk
When: 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Where: South Lawn of MacKay Hall
Description: Faculty, staff and students are invited to register for Iowa's Healthiest State Walk on their website. First 30 to register get free CHS shirt.

What: CHS Multicultural Networking Dinner
When: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m
Where: 23 MacKay Hall
Description: Connect Four and CHS Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a dinner to bring Multicultural and International students, Faculty and Staff in the CHS together. The dinner will include connection activities, Q and A sessions and an opportunity for all participants to network with faculty and staff in their future career fields and research areas. The dinner is open to everyone but participants must RSVP beforehand.

Description: Food Science club will be showing the delicious side of the science behind ice cream making. Toppings & cones offered.

Thursday

What: Professional and Scientific Fair

Description: The Professional and Scientific (P&S) Fair is a chance for all the departments in CHS to highlight who they are and what they do. Each department will be invited to showcase an interesting aspect of the department that others within the college might not be aware of.

What: TREND Styling Session
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.
Where: 0680 Lagomarcino Hall
Description: Fashion directors will explain their roles with TREND Magazine, their experiences with photoshoots, and give pointers regarding styling. Students will style someone with the various articles of clothing provided.

What: Events 101
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.

Description: Event Management Club will be doing a crash course of a few different event-related hands-on activities.

What: ExerCYse is Medicine
When: noon - 1:00 p.m.
Where: 0116 MacKay
Description: Kinesiology professor Dr. Paddy Ekkekakis will be interactively explaining the benefits of exercise and practical ways that someone could gain those benefits. Touching lives through education about exercise!

What: Human Sciences Week Celebration and Networking Event for Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff

Description: Networking event and viewing of Faces of Iowa State traveling ISU Art Exhibit View preview.

What: Campanile Cinema - Wonder Woman
When: 8:00 p.m. (dusk)
Where: South Campanile Lawn
Description: Wonder Woman will be shown on Central Campus for students, staff, and faculty. Free popcorn and drinks will be served.

Friday

What: CHS and CALS Dunkin' Donuts and Coffee
When: 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Where: Central Campus
Description: In collaboration with CALS Council, free donuts and coffee will be available from Dunkin Donuts.

What: S.H.O.P Hunger Games
When: 9:30 a.m.
Where: Central Campus
Description: Throughout the week S.H.O.P would gather donations for the S.H.O.P. At the breakfast, teams of 4 will join together before the event. They will have limited time to gather donations for their team to use and work together to create a can sculpture. They will be judged by students, faculty, and staff at the event.

What: Explore Human Sciences Day
