- Neural control and performance of repetitive movement in persons with Parkinson's disease
- Rehabilitation strategies that include music to improve movement performance (finger movements, speech, and gait) in persons with Parkinson's disease
- Neural basis of music
My main research focus is on understanding the control of repetitive movements in persons with Parkinson's disease and developing rehabilitation strategies that use music to improve movement performance. Specifically, my research focuses on repetitive finger movements, speech, and gait. I am a new faculty member, and will pursue the investigation of the neural control of these movements and music using electroencephalography (EEG) in combination with other motion capture systems.
I teach Motor Control and Learning, Physical Dimensions of Aging, and the Neural Basis of Human Movement.
I lead two outreach groups for persons with Parkinson's disease, a singing group and a music and movement group.
I am a board certified music therapist and am active in professional organizations including the Society for Neuroscience and the American Music Therapy Association.
