- Weight room maintenance and sanitation - Lead teams through warm ups, training sessions, and cool downs - Teach and demonstrate complex movements like the squat, bench press, clean, and snatch - Actively coach athletes and make on the spot corrections - Set up and take down equipment for conditioning and strength drills - Build constructive relationships with the athletes and foster a positive training atmosphere
I will never forget...
By far the best experience I gained from this internship was watching new athletes that had never touched a barbell in their lives learn complex Olympic movements. Watching the face of a new athlete perform their first correct power clean and seeing "the light bulb in their head turn on" is an awesome and fun experience.
Advice for others...
Ask your supervisor as many questions as possible and don't expect an athlete to perform movements that you can't do yourself.
