I was responsible for...
Developed and implemented a boxing program as a means of alternative physical activity for a Parkinson's Disease population.
Being able to provide a program that improves the quality of life for those who have a movement disorder.
Even though it may appear that an individual has extreme difficulty performing activities of daily living, something as simple as a forty-five minute boxing lesson once a week can truly make a significant difference in the lives of those participating.
Advice for others...
Often, students are inclined to seek out internships that have set goals and activities for them to follow on a daily basis. I encourage those who are struggling to find an internship that they will enjoy during their internship term to find an activity they like to participate in and share it with others--create your own internship. Professors in the Kinesiology Department are always looking for ways to get more people involved in physical activity!
