I was responsible for...
Create a unique shopping experience for established clients with designer brands outside of the midwest, Collaborate with owner and colleagues to provide input on purchasing and buying designer brands, build relationships with various buyers to better understand their product history and maintain inventory weekly on all garments
I am motivated after learning about how to own your own business. Talking to the owner of Velvet Coat and learning the ins and outs of a small local retailer has given me knowledge that I will definitely use in the future. I am glad to have the connection to this boutique for present and future advice as well.
There are many brands that I adore and admire, that I would have never known about unless working at this boutique! Raquel Allegra is a stunningly artistic designer who creates simple silhouettes but with gorgeous fabrics. Her clothing are things that I could make, which inspires me as a designer. Another brand I have become fascinated by is Self Portrait. Their styles are unique in every sense of the word, and no other boutique in the Midwest carries this brand. Lastly, Iris Setlakwe has taught me immensely about tailoring for the female body.
Advice for others...
Be open to all responsibilities. Being flexible goes a long way, and can move you to the responsibilities and tasks that you want to be doing. Also, there is nothing more important than creating a positive environment for everyone. Genuinely being kind to every individual you interact with is beneficial in so many ways.
