I was responsible for...
Through this internship I was responsible for aiding in the planning of the annual Open Streets event to promote physical activity and wellbeing to the Ames community in a fun engaging way. I was also responsible for writing a grant review for the funds used to put on the Open Street event. I also attended all board meeting and aided in creating the agendas and meeting minutes. I helped with all areas of Healthiest Ames from promoting the organization around Ames, to creating a strategic plan to better outline future tactics and endeavors and allow for more effective implementation and evaluation, as well as to aid in identifying Healthiest Ames goals through staying true to the mission and vision. I also aided with several other community events that aimed toward active transport, and physical activity.
The greatest accomplishment of my internship experience was in aiding in creating the strategic plan. Healthiest Ames can now move forward much more effectively. This strategic plan encompasses everything from the vision/mission, an overview of the history of Healthiest Ames, the structure of the board, the focus areas, the finical policy, tactic sheets, and much more to allow the board to operate much more effectively and make a bigger impact on the community.
My greatest lesson I learned during my interrnship is that networking is the most important thing that you can do. It will get more done, and get you farther than anything else. There were so many times during my internship that I was able to move things forward or have questions answered VERY quickly because someone on the board knew someone else.
