I was responsible for...
I provided one-on-one training to the sports acceleration program participants, especially the new members. These were mostly high school kids or they were college athletes. I taught them the proper technique to the agility and plyometric drills. I also taught them lifts, mainly Olympic style lifts. I gave cues before, during, and after the drills and lifts. I helped out with the CrossFit classes and sometimes led them myself, going over the workout, explaining technique, and offering encouragement throughout. Besides being an exercise leader, I would clean equipment and do laundry when needed.

I will never forget...
The overall atmosphere at this gym is the most memorable for me. All of the members were like a family. When new members would join, the would feel right at home. Those who have been there for awhile would introduce themselves and start conversations with them whenever they noticed someone new in class. And the thing to remember about a CrossFit gym, is that it can be intimidating at first by having a larger number of extremely fit people, but there are all kinds of people that come. Everyone has to start somewhere and this gym is particularly good at welcoming new members.

Advice for others...
Never stop learning, especially in this profession. Always try to keep up with the new trends in fitness. I also believe that you should educate your self outside of class through books not required for your classes. Another thing is to get experience working with many different people in the field, especially those with great expertise, to help lead you along the way.

I landed this assignment by...
I first contacted them over the phone and exchanged e-mails. Then, I sent my resume and a few e-mails before meeting in-person at their facility. I was shown around the gym and was told of my responsibilities if I were to take the internship before being offered the opportunity to work with them.

I wanted this experience because...
I had previously gone to this sports acceleration program back in high school, although the management has completely changed since then. I wanted to do an internship with a sports acceleration program and knew this was one of the premier sports acceleration programs in the state. It also had the bonus of being a CrossFit gym where I could also lead group exercise classes.
