I was responsible for...
Responsibilities: -Test the current activity level of patients through fitness assessments. -Assist E.P. with teaching resistance training. -Take blood pressure before, during and after activity. -Adjust equipment and help transfer patients to and from machines. -Observe stress, diabetes and diet classes. -Attend electronic MED record class and chart in PT record. -Demonstrate exercise, explain technique, and modify/progress workouts. -Develop exercise programs for patients. Description: According to St. Anthony's Medical Center, "Cardiac Rehabilitation is an individualized and personalized treatment plan, including evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management and other health related areas."

I accomplished...
Becoming confident taking blood pressures during exercise was a big accomplishment for me in my internship. In addition to that accomplishment, I also learned how to safely progress the exercise intensity of patients with a history of heart attacks, heart failure, angina, open heart surgery, etc...

I learned...
1.) That knowing clients names and having a genuine interest in their lives is important(builds trust). 2.) That knowing the medical history of clientele is vital to making effective exercise programs and progressing/modifying activities. 3.) That peers are often a good source of motivation when it comes to making and reaching fitness goals.

Advice for others...
My advice: 1.) Students should start interviewing well in advance to their planned internship start date. Since I interviewed so early, I was able to minimize the competition I had for my desired position. 2.) Students should know it is alright to be unaware of how to complete all job tasks on day one. Students who ask questions show their employers that they are teachable and care to perfect job responsibilities. 3.) Students should always be on time(10-15 minutes early) to work and never leave early. 4.) Students should take a holistic approach to health and fitness by placing an equal focus on nutrition, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness.
