I was responsible for...
Created and managed my own incentive fitness program, taught my own group fitness class, managed the fitness center front desk, offered member service (enrollment, assessments, etc.), led health seminars, attended group fitness classes, created educational health resources for members

I accomplished...
Got to teach my very own group fitness class for two months, created a incentive program that had a lot of popularity and success, led two 45-minute health seminars about cholesterol and family health.

My most valuable effort...
Creating my incentive program, leading a group fitness class, and leading health seminars were all very valuable because they taught me in many ways of how to develop my leadership skills.

I learned...
I think leading the health seminars was the best learning experience i had during my internship. Going from college speeches (which are only 10 minute speeches) to a 45-minute seminar was a big adjustment to make at first. you have to prepare properly for it and learn how to speak in front of a bunch of people. I think this experience helped me with my public speaking skills, and with my preparation skills.

I will never forget...
The last day of my incentive program, I gave out free personal training session to my finalists and they all thanked me for challenging them so much and asked me for more resources to help keep them on the right track for fitness. This was a great experience best you get to notice the small lifestyle choice that will help people in the long run.

A surprising discovery...
I never really saw myself teaching group fitness classes at first, but after a few classes of teaching it started to come naturally and became pretty easy.

Advice for others...
Don't be intimidated by the fact that you will be teaching group fitness classes to people, they can be a fun way to teach others some of your moves. The seminars are pretty easy, you are given a whole handout of exactly what to say and talk about. This is a great internship for someone trying to get into the corporate fitness industry.

I first learned about this career-building experience from...
I heard about this from a classmate that went through the internship and she loved it, so I thought that it would be a great way to end my college career.

I landed this assignment by...
I applied online for the internship and selected the region that I wanted to be stationed in. Within the first week, I had received four different sites interested in interviewing me. I had a phone interview with all four and then went on to have two in-person interviews. Then I ended up getting the on at Boston Scientific in Arden Hills, MN.

I wanted this experience because...
At the time I really was running out of time to find an internship so that I could graduate on time. But I chose to go towards the corporate wellness side of community health because it would give myself a chance to learn more about the industry and get in better shape myself.
