I was responsible for...
Responsibilites: file paper work for different events happening at the Ron Pearson Center, assist sales staff in organization and planning of September bridal show, help with marketing of various events, work with banquet staff to serve and assure that events run smoothly, and sit in on event meetings to discuss banquet event orders.
My greatest accomplishment was that I was able to see how the bridal show happened from start to finish. I was able to be apart of the planning of the show, organization of the show, set up of the show, work the actual show and then tear down the show at the end of the night.I was able to say that I was apart of the entire event from start to finish.
One of the greatest lessons I have learned thus far is that communication is one of the number one things that goes into planning an event. I was responsible for communicating with 50+ vendors and brides that had questions for the show. I also had to communicated with different businesses when we were working on the marketing side of the event. It was so eye opening to see how much communication goes into a bridal show and really showed me how important communication skills are in this field.
Advice for others...
Don't be afraid to do the dirty work! I love chatting with clients and helping the sales staff in the office and have learned so much from them, but its when I work events as a banquet server that I get the real experience that I know I will use as I continue with my career!
