I was responsible for...
The assignments consist of working at the front desk inside the Fitness Wellness Suite, conducting check-in operations for clients and staff members. I was also involved in setting up fitness assessments for clients, who are Iowa State University staff members, and conducting gym floor observation for students training inside State Gym.

I accomplished...
I believe that my critical thinking improved over the 10 weeks. I now understand the ACE protocol, which is used at Recreation Services. Another great thing that happened is that I held my first exercise fitness workshop for fellow trainers on the importance of safety awareness while spotting their client. This workshop turned out well in the sense that students were excited to learn about spotting techniques from the 1980's and 90's, giving them a different perspective, which was based on my previous experiences.

My most valuable effort...
The most valuable project was really two things - the exercise workshop and the fitness assessments. These were valuable because of the social interaction created and the sense of well-being for students and staff members. The fitness assessments gave me the chance to practice my testing skills with a positive perspective.

I learned...
The fitness management operations inside the fitness wellness suite was eye-opening, because I learned a lot about computer operations, using the system REC-TRAC, and structuring fitness appointments for clients.

I will never forget...
The exercise workshop was memorable! I had the chance to demonstrate my exercise leadership skills and knowledge, as well as guide students toward fitness and training success!

A surprising discovery...
The variety of ways you can have your client warm-up is something I learned from Nora Hudson. I learned these tips by attending her yoga classes twice a week. This changed my perspective on new techniques for warming-up.

Advice for others...
Please be excited about the internship and learn to demonstrate your skills and open your mind in order to gain critical and practical experience that will shape your perspective to share with others in the "real world".

I first learned about this career-building experience from...
I was walking through the Forker building and stopped by to speak with Deb Power about helping me find a specific fitness management internship on the ISU campus. Mrs. Power recommended Recreation Services.

I landed this assignment by...
I interviewed with Nora Hudson, who offered me the position.

I wanted this experience because...
The assignment matched up well with fitness management and recreation services and seemed appropriate, especially if I'm planning on starting my own business.
