I was responsible for...
I responsibilities throughout this internship included increasing access to physical and mental health resources for refugees, conducting home visits, intakes, and assessments of clients, providing direct case management services for refugees in the community, coordinating appointments and services, as well as maintaining appointment notes for clients, educating clients to maintain health insurance benefits, teaching health-related classes, and working with clients with supportive community networks and social support systems to ensure their long-term integration into the community.

I will never forget...
My most memorable experience would have to be the various field trips we took the clients on. Working with refugees gives the opportunity to work with people from all over the world. A recent trip to the Des Moines Art Center was a great opportunity to transcend language barriers and allow everyone to participate with each other no matter their background.

Advice for others...
It is never too early to search for an internship or career after college. The earlier you start, the more opportunities that will come your way! Never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone because there are so many opportunities out there for you to experience and be apart of!
