I was responsible for...
I assisted Advocates in translating client confidential documents for court, Police Department and lawyers. I also had the opportunity to shadow Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and Child Advocates in client sessions, court hearings, meditations, lawyer consultations, and police investigations. I successfully coordinated L.U.N.A Legal Clinics by maintaining professional relationships and effective communication with Law offices and L.U.N.A clients. I was also able create and manage bilingual correspondence in both Spanish and English and was instrumental in office functionality and basic clerical jobs.

I accomplished...
My greatest accomplishment during my experience is coordinating and Co-launching the adolescent prevention pilot program "The Butterfly Effect" with the prevention specialist. This program was focus to give Latina adolescents (ages 11-14) education about adolescent development, self-image,healthy relationships, healthy sexuality and sexual assault prevention while also talking about the culturally specific barriers they may face with these topics.

I learned...
My greatest lesson learned is that you cannot always help everyone. At the beginning of the internship I tried my best to please everyone-both advocates and clients, but I learned that in this type of work you should not overwhelm yourself because it takes a big toll on you physically and emotionally.

Advice for others...
My advice for future students is to not be hesitant or nervous when starting something new. It is O.K to ask for help, that is what co-workers are there for!
