I was responsible for...
Responsibilities included taking blood pressures of patients before, during and after exercise, leading weights and stretching routine, educating patients on exercise and disease prevention or progression,Exercise prescription to patients, fitness assessments, observing:open heart surgery, stress lab, catheter lab, pulmonologist and cardiac clinic.
My greatest accomplishment was gaining strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills. Working in the real world is much different than a class room setting as you apply knowledge and skills to real patients with real diseases.
There is so much more to learn while working. Knowledge from classes was a great baseline to start from, but there is so much more depth and different problems you may encounter that you need to solve.
Advice for others...
You will learn so much more about disease and disease prevention through the semester with cardiopulmonary rehab.Don't expect to know the whole job as the experience will help you prepare for a rehab setting and you will be so comfortable by the end of the semester. Just go in knowing this is a learning experience.
