I was responsible for...
My responsibilities started with getting members of the gym to become clients of mine to train. A lot of the members I gained came from an initial session that persuaded them to have me as a personal trainer. I trained about 10 people per week, along with teaching group fitness classes on occasion. I also designed "workouts of the week" for members to see on social media and try out on their own.

I accomplished...
My accomplishments are having some of my clients saying how much better they feel and how much stronger/how much weight they have lost from training with me. Making a difference in their lives is the best accomplishment a personal trainer can ask for.

My most valuable effort...
The most valuable thing I did was training a member who was very out of shape and very uncoordinated. I trained him for about 10 weeks, three times per week, and noticed incredible improvements in his strength, coordination, and body composition.

I learned...
The most valuable learning experience I had was shadowing one of the other personal trainers during the first couple weeks of the internship. He was voted best personal trainer in the area, and he showed me multiple ways on how to become a better trainer. It gave me confidence and made me more comfortable when training throughout the internship.

I will never forget...
The most memorable experience I have from the internship is the couple of clients I have worked with coming up to me and saying how much better they feel because of working with me. That also gave me a lot of confidence in that I was making other people happy from what I was doing.

A surprising discovery...
A couple of times I had a workout all planned out, only to find out that the clients I was training that day were sore in the muscles that I was planning on working that day. I just had to alter the workout that day and work around the muscles that were sore for them. I just need to be prepared to alter the workouts that I have planned.

Advice for others...
The advice that I have is to just be confident when training people. The last thing that clients want to see or here from a personal trainer is nervousness. If you are confident in what you are having them do, then they will be confident and more comfortable in achieving their fitness goals.

I first learned about this career-building experience from...
It is required for all exercise science students. The KIN 485 internship was first introduced to me when I declared it as my major.

I landed this assignment by...
I emailed the owner of the gym and explained my position of needing an internship for credit. I then had an interview and was given the position about a week later.

I wanted this experience because...
I wanted to be a personal trainer, and I did not really want to do it at a large fitness center. FitMe Wellness is a small, locally owned gym, and that is what I was looking for to start off my career in the fitness industry.
