Sample Pages and Templates for CHS Web Authors

Sample Templates for creating new pages.

For the sake of illustration in this discussion of templates, "Department of Mythic Studies" is a hypothetical department (or unit or sub-unit) of the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences.

The College of Human Science's virtual server is actually a Unix server that is physically located in Durham, maintained by Academic Information Technology's Web Services Division. Space on that server is rented by the College of Human Sciences. To maintain the College's visual identity, anyone designing web pages for that server is asked to start with the templates provide at the link below.

These templates are intended to be used as a starting point for design work. We recommend that, in most cases, the templates be followed exactly as they are, with the designer only changing the words, links and file references to match their department (or unit or sub-unit). Efforts should be made to organize content to work within the current layout. However, we also understand that, in some cases, there are compelling reasons to revise the templates (such as creating a template with department information already included. Please visit with Cathy Curtis before making changes to your templates.
