Responsibilities

Performing all daily care activities for members (feeding, dressing, bathing, administering medications, toileting/changing, medical appointments, transportation), taking one member to water therapy weekly and instructing his exercise routine, working one-on-one with one member and taking him out for community integration activities, doing activities with members (coloring, puzzles, watching movies, playing with toys), maintaining documentation via Therap platform of members and maintaining their medication administration records

Accomplishments

Learning how to pass meds, finding new and innovative ways to communicate with a nonverbal member, becoming more efficient at my job (getting down a routine of feeding, bathing, med passing, etc.)

What advice would you give?

Step out of your comfort zone when looking for your internship. You might really enjoy something you never expected to enjoy, and it could end up informing your future career path. Don't listen to people who are negative about you going into a career in the human services field. There is excellent job growth and security, and the world needs us!
