On February 2, 2004, Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy
announced plans to combine the College of Education and the College
of Family and Consumer Sciences in an effort to reduce administrative
costs and enhance synergies between the two colleges.
The Planning Committee, comprised of faculty and staff, was appointed
by Provost Benjamin Allen to work in consultation with constituents
to develop a strategy to carry out the restructuring.
The planning phase of the restructuring culminated with a plan that
was endorsed by key campus groups. The plan received unanimous approval
from the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, on December 16, 2004.
