WebCT GOLD: Tips for Playing RealPlayer Clips from WebCT

Having problems viewing Real video or audio links from your WebCT course? Here are some things to check / try:

• First and most important, make sure that you have worked through the WebCT Browser Tune-up, http://www.webct.com/tuneup.

  • You must turn off pop-up blockers and have the right version of JAVA to use WebCT efficiently.

• Also, if you use Internet Explorer, make sure to enable file downloads. You will likely have to make a setting change in the IE browser. Follow these steps: Internet Explorer Browser Settings for Optimum Compatibility with WebCT
  

• Make sure that you have RealPlayer installed on your computer.

  • Go to http://www.president.iastate.edu/video/video.shtml and click the "RealPlayer" version of the President's speech. If you have RealPlayer installed on your computer, the clip should begin.

  • If you need it, download the free basic version from http://www.real.com/player/?src=realplayer
    

• When all else fails, you can usually find the URL for the video / audio files by going to the "Web Links" tool (listed in the left hand menu of your WebCT course). Try copying the complete RealPlayer clip URL into your web browser's address bar, thus circumventing WebCT altogether.
  

• Finally, you can enter a URL straight into the RealPlayer.

  • Open RealPlayer directly on your computer then click the File tab and select Open to get an address box where you can paste in the clip URL listed in your course.
