WebCT GOLD: How to review question answer keys

February 19, 2008

To begin:

  1. Click on the BUILD tab.
  2. Click on ASSESSMENTS.
  3. Click on the GO TO QUESTION DATABASE button.
  4. If questions are stored in category storage folders, click the plus sign icon in front of a folder to see the list of questions contained within it.
  5. Now proceed with either Method 1 or Method 2 as described below. Method 1 is a “fast” way to see what the student sees for each question and verify the question answer key. You might want to use this method until you find an error in a question key. The way to fix problems is with Method 2. You can also discover problems through method 2, but it may be less obvious to see. So… use Method 1 and 2 in tandem, OR just use method 2. Your choice.

Method 1 - Review question grading

  • Pull down arrow next to  a question and click “PREVIEW”. The questions appears in a pop-up window.
  • Select an answer (right or wrong) and click GRADE. Will then see a key indicating how WebCT is grading that questions.

Tip: Leave the popup open and just click on the next question link to see the next question. It will over write in the same pop-up window. This is faster than closing the window between each question.

Method 2 - Review and correct question answer key

  • Click the actual linked question name (e.g. MC12) to open the question's template ("key"). This is where the question has been defined, including response options and answer.
    • For multiple choice questions, the correct answer will have stored value = 100%.
    • For True/False questions there is a radio button indicating which value is considered correct.
    • For matching questions, the matches are listed side-by-side.
  • If you see a problem in the template, change it and Save the question. If the question is currently associate with a quiz, you'll get a warning message but just click “OK” on the warning message pop-up window to proceed.  If you change a question's answer, the students’ scores should be automatically adjusted.
