WebCT GOLD: Gradebook Management Tips
November 29, 2007
WebCT provides an online gradebook. The instructor of the course controls the gradebook layout and visibility of data columns to students. The gradebook has many bells and whistles, some of which can be counter intuitive. To reduce frustration, instructors should become familiar with the following:
-
To access the gradebook you must first click the TEACH tab.
-
To see the grades, click the GRADEBOOK link in the left hand column then click the VIEW ALL tab along the top of data table (it is the middle of five tabs).
-
"View All" causes columns containing grade and columns containing non-grade data to display on the screen. It is important to consistently work on this tab since it most closely matches the column order view students see.
-
You will only see those columns which you have not hidden from instructor view (see step 4 below).
-
To see all the students, change the pull down PAGE menu below the data table to show ALL (last thing in the pull down menu) and then click the GREEN GO symbol ">"
-
To control which columns are displayed in the instructor view, click the REORDER COLUMNS button above the data table and then click HIDE or SHOW columns.
-
To release or hide columns to the students' view, click GRADE BOOK OPTIONS (right upper corner of data table) then select COLUMN SETTINGS. There is a yes/no release toggle for each column. If you want to change several at a time, can check the boxes above the columns then scroll to left and select RELEASE or DO NOT RELEASE buttons.
