WebCT GOLD: How to Email Files
November 29, 2007
One way of sharing a file with others in your course is to send it to them as an email attachment using WebCT's internal email system. Some instructors will ask for assignments to be turned in through email.
Sending WebCT email attachments:
-
Go into your course. (You can't send email from the My WebCT Gold screen, you can only read it).
-
In your course, click the Mail link in the Course Tools menu.
-
In the Inbox window, click Create Message
-
Click Browser for Recipients... and indicate who you want the mail to go to.
-
You can send the message to a specific student, a group of students that your instructor has created, all students, all course teaching assistants, all course instructors, or all course developers. If you are targeting the course instructors, do not mail the course developers as these may not be the same people.
-
You must include text in the Subject line.
-
You must include some sort of text in the Message box. It could be just something like "see attached file".
-
Click Add Attachments. The Content Browser pop-up window appears. Do one of the following:
-
If the files are on your computer:
-
Click the My Computer icon.
-
Locate and select the files. A window may appear to indicate that the file upload progress.
-
If the files are in WebCT in your personal "My Files" storage area, locate and select the files.
-
Verify that you see the file name below the Add Attachments button. You can attach more than one file to an email message. To remove an attached file, click the icon with the red arrow next to the file name.
-
Click Preview, Save as Draft, or Send.
WebCT keeps track of all the mail that you send. You can click on the Sent Mail folder to review previously sent messages.
REMINDER: You can not send mail into WebCT from an external mail system. For that reason, if you have WebCT mail forwarding turned on, you can not reply to WebCT forwarded mail from outside of WebCT.
