The Academy

The Family and Consumer Sciences Education program at Iowa State University offers a new delivery method for its longstanding, prestigious graduate program: the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Leadership Academy.

The Academy's focus is to provide graduate education at the Master's and Doctoral levels to professionals who commit to several weeks of resident experiences at ISU during the summer months. The program of study also includes distance education opportunities, assuring that the participant can maintain his/her professional position while undertaking this program.

The Family and Consumer Science Education Leadership Academy aspires to strengthen Family and Consumer Sciences by inviting collaborative participation in reflection, renewal, and development of professional scholarship and engagement.

Please note new admission to MFCS-Educational Studies program have been suspended. This admission suspension does not impact the admission to any of our other programs.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Educational Studies program at Iowa State University has a long and prestigious record of success. Now, due to high enrollments and our continued resolve to offer the highest quality learning experiences, the program has suspended admissions of new graduate students. This suspension does not apply to those students currently enrolled and those already admitted to the program.

The date for reopening this program will be based on information yielded from a variety of sources including that from a regular University program review which will be underway soon. Through this input, we will have a better understanding of appropriate goals, the capacity of this program for student enrollments, and thus a feasible date for future new admissions.

Should you need further information, please contact the Dean's Office (515-294-7800) where you will be directed to the associate dean who is assisting with this process.

Alternate Program Option:
Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA)

Although new admissions to this MFCS-Educational Studies program have been suspended at Iowa State University, another option is available through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA).

GP-IDEA is a consortium of universities that have come together to offer fully online degree programs. Each university brings a unique strength to the multi-institution academic programs.

In a multi-institution degree program, you apply and are admitted at one university; enroll in all your courses at that university; and graduate or receive a certificate from that university. However, your online courses are taught by the best faculty in the discipline from several universities.

While Iowa State University is not able to serve as your home institution for the Masters of Family and Consumer Sciences-Education program, you may choose an alternate university.
