Admissions Information
Students must meet the following criteria to be admitted to the online Master's program:
- Must hold the credential of Registered Dietician (RD) or be RD-eligible, (meaning the student has met both the academic and supervised practice requirements of the American Dietetic Association and is ready to sit for the national credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietician).
- Must meet the Master's program entrance requirements of the admitting university. Typically this requires a minimum of at least a 3.0 undergraduate grade point average (or 3.0 on the last 60 hours of coursework in the undergraduate degree).
- The GRE or GMAT may be required by some participating institutions
Application procedures
Students may apply in any semester. Iowa State University's admission process is self-managed, which means that applicants are responsible for collecting their application and all supporting materials (academic records, letter of recommendation, etc.) in a single package and sending it to the university. This ensures a more timely processing of materials.
Students seeking admission at Iowa State University must:
- ONLINE: Complete an application for Admission to the Iowa State University Graduate College (http://www.admissions.iastate.edu/apply)

- ONLINE: Pay the campus application fee (part of the Admission process in step 1).
- MAIL: Submit official transcripts of all college work completed to date to the Office of Admissions (see address below).
- MAIL or ONLINE: Provide current Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. The Graduate Record Examination is a general aptitude test required of all applicants. No minimum GRE score is set. Education Testing Services has a website at http://www.gre.org.
- MAIL or ONLINE: Provide three letters of recommendation from professional or educational sources (these can be sent through the mail or submitted online during the application process).
- MAIL: Send a brief resume, goal statement and department application form (Word File)

When all the application materials have been received, the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences graduate committee will review your request for admission to the MFCS-Dietetics program and will contact you about their decision within 6-8 weeks.
