Skype is software that allows users to communicate over the internet. Skype works on many computer platforms and phone types.

If you are communicating from one Skype enabled device to another, you can make free calls, video calls, instant messaging, and file transfers.

For a fee, you can contact telephones and mobile phones, or send text messages.

To use Skype, you must download software on your computer and set up a user account. You'll need a microphone for voice communication. A headset works better than a built in microphone. You'll need a webcam for video calls. Many laptops have built-in webcams.
