How to change your ISU passwords
October, 2009

There are two different logins systems at ISU.

The first is for the records system. Every employee and student is given an ID number for the record system when they become a member of the ISU community. Distance Education students will get this from their student coordinator or the Registrar.

The second login is for accessing ISU computer services. This is not granted automatically but if you have your staff/student ID (1), you can apply online for a computer network ID (netID)

  1. One login is for your student/faculty-staff records in the AccessPlus system. This is the system where you find information about registration, class lists, U-bill, fee assessment, vacation and payroll data. It has an associated password.

To reset your AccessPlus password, go to http://accessplus.iastate.edu/ , click on "Forget your password?," and follow the steps that are given.

NOTE: Your student/staff ID number is also used with the ISU library system when you are accessing certain library services from non-ISU computers. The library system uses a different password (pin code) that you can set up from the library web page.

  2. The other login you will need is your ISU computer network, called your netID. Your netID is used with the central computer services, such as email, WebCT, and logging into the ISU computer network from a lab or office.

If you do not have a netID, you can register for one through the ASW web page. You will need to know your student ID number.

To reset your netID password, complete the online Password Change Form, http://www.it.iastate.edu/forms/solution/password-change.pdf, or print it off and fax it to 515.294.9062. Or if you are on campus, drop by the Solution Center in 195 Durham and a staff member can reset your password. You will be asked to show photo ID.

If you are a distance education student who will only be taking one or two courses at ISU, you may have been assigned a temporary netID (exception ID) and password that work only within WebCT. Exception IDs begin with the characters "w" and a period (w.) . You cannot change the password to an exception ID.
