Open to the public and Iowa State students, course begins Sept. 29
Pasta pasta, a new one-credit course offered by Iowa State University will begin Tuesday, Sept. 29, and runs 5:30-8:30 p.m., in 200 MacKay Hall on the Iowa State campus. Online registration is now open for the course, which meets each Tuesday through Nov. 3.
Designed to increase knowledge and offer new perspective of nutritious, simple and versatile pasta, the course offers opportunities for practicing culinary skills.
Participants will be exposed to a variety of aspects of pasta, including its history, culinary uses in different cultures, and both traditional and lesser-known methods of preparation, using vegetables, meat and creams. By consuming the prepared dishes, students will explore new flavors and ingredient combinations and develop their appreciation for the popular and economical raw material.
Although the Italian tradition of pasta cookery will be emphasized, other pasta products, such as German spaetzle, Asian noodles and Moroccan couscous, will be prepared.
Each class will combine scientific instruction, demonstration, and hands-on participation. There are no prerequisites for the class.
