ISU clinic offers spring semester tutoring for young readers

Enrollment applications due Jan. 23

One-on-one tutoring in reading for children in grades 2-8 is offered this spring at the Fred Duffelmeyer Reading Improvement Clinic in the Iowa State University Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The tutoring sessions are conducted by advanced graduate students who focus in reading and related areas of study, under the guidance of ISU literacy education faculty.

Spring semester tutoring sessions are offered for 60 minutes, twice a week from February 9 until May 8. Specific tutoring days, times, and locations will be arranged in consultation with the child's family and tutors. Tutors work closely with parents to determine each student's needs, plan individualized instruction, and monitor the student's progress.

An enrollment fee of $100 per child covers instruction and related materials. Some scholarships are available upon request. It is vital that children be present for each day of tutoring.

If you want your child considered for tutoring during the 2009 spring semester, contact Marissa Vermeer, lecturer in curriculum and instruction, by phone at 515 292-0748 or email mvermeer@iastate.edu for an enrollment application. Completed applications will be accepted until January 23.
