State's top educators honored by Iowa State University

Iowa State University brought the state's educators of the yeartogether on the ISU campus Oct. 4 (2008) to honor their accomplishment and discuss ways to improve education. AMES, Iowa “This is the only event of the year where leaders of the state’s top associations for school boards, teachers, and administrators come together with Iowa K-12 educators of the year. We recognize the honorees for excellence and also discuss ways to improve education for Iowa's children,” said Pamela White, interim dean of the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences.
 
Honorees included Sue Wood, Fort Dodge, Iowa Central Office Administrator of the Year; Nancy Gardner, West Liberty, Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year; Pamela White, interim dean, Iowa State University College of Human Sciences. Back: Ralph Morales, vice president, Corning Community School Board; Andy Mogle, Norwalk, Iowa Teacher of the Year; Dan Meyer, Urbandale, Iowa Middle Level Principal of the Year; Joe Mueting, Spencer, Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year; Mike Wells, Superintendent, Corning Community Schools; Gary Goldsmith, President, Corning Community School Board. The Corning Board received the T.E. Davidson Award from the Iowa Association of School Boards. The Iowa Teacher of the Year is named by the Iowa Department of Education. The state administrators of the year are selected by the School Administrators of Iowa.
 
Other educational leaders that participated included: Rosie Hussey, president, State Board of Education; Bonnie Boothroy, associate executive director, School Administrators of Iowa; Brad Buck, president, School Administrators of Iowa; Mary Jane Cobb, executive director, Iowa State Education Association; Chris Bern, president, Iowa State Education Association; State Sen. Herman Quirmbach; State Rep. Lisa Heddens; David Whaley, associate dean and director, Iowa State University Teacher Education Program, and president Iowa Association of College Teacher Educators; Carl Smith, professor and chair, curriculum and instruction, Iowa State University; Robert Bosselman, professor and chair, apparel, educational studies, and hospitality management, Iowa State University.
