AMES, Iowa – The College of Human Sciences and the Iowa State University Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE) will be conducting the first annual RISE lecture and poster fair on Oct. 9, 2008 in 142 Curtiss Hall on the Iowa State Campus, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The afternoon will include a poster fair with light refreshments and presentation from education researcher and professor Patricia Maloney, entitled, “What we talk about when we talk about policy: Science, mathematics, higher education and the rest of us.” The lecture will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. All ISU students, faculty, staff and interested community members are invited to attend to learn more about the research initiatives of RISE.
“I would like to make the college and university aware of what we do at RISE,” said Linda Serra Hagedorn, director. “We’re doing a lot of very interesting projects that I think have implications not only for the work that we do, but for the University, for Iowa, and the greater community. It’s a chance for people to get to know us and for us to meet others.”
Hagedorn said there are about 20 ongoing research projects at RISE. Interested people can view research on topics ranging from special education behavioral structures, to the concept of 360-degree teacher feedback, and much more at the poster session.
Maloney will deliver a speech focusing on her areas of specialization in education policy, with specific concentration on the science, technology, education, and mathematics (STEM) initiative. Hagedorn said Maloney’s expertise is a perfect fit with the many STEM research projects being conducted at Iowa State.
