An exhibit featuring textiles treasures and clothing history of Iowa State University will open with an event on Monday, Feb. 25, at 4:00 p.m., in the Textiles and Clothing Museum in Morrill Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at a reception outside the gallery, immediately following the short program. The "One Thread, Many Hands" exhibit runs through April 30.
To celebrate Iowa State's 150th birthday, the exhibit showcases garments from every decade between 1850 and today. The garments, from the Textiles and Clothing Historic Costume Collection, include designer pieces from American sportswear legend Claire McCardell (1947 shirt-waist dress), ready-to-wear designer Adele Simpson (1970s jacket), and a 1980s dress from Arnold Scaasi.
The exhibit also features images from the 1890s to 1980s, depicting Iowa State University and its textiles and clothing program. The historic images were provided by the University Archives, ISU Library.
As a special treat, an old Cy Mascot costume has been secured for the collection.
Curators for the exhibit are Sara Marcketti, Carmen Keist, Tekara Stewart, and Erica White. For More Information call, call Sara Marcketti, phone 515 294-7474 or sbb@iastate.edu.
