The department of kinesiology’s pre-physical therapy club students recently met and collaborated with students from the University of Iowa’s physical therapy program to learn about future learning opportunities.
“The University of Iowa visits every year and brings data about how our students rank within their physical therapy program,” Jerry Thomas, professor, department of kinesiology, said. “They also bring a couple of former Iowa State kinesiology students with them to encourage the current students to apply.”
This year, data from the University of Iowa showed that within the physical therapy program, Iowa State University students have the highest acceptance rate of any other college, including the University of Iowa's own students. Accepting 51 percent of Iowa State students, Thomas said it speaks well of the exercise science program.
Thomas said approximately 250 students enroll in the exercise science option of pre-physical therapy. Many go to the University of Iowa, but other popular colleges include Washington University at St. Louis and Des Moines University.
