and "The Flight of the Creative Class." Florida has been named the 2007-08 Dean Helen LeBaron Hilton Chair in the College of Human Sciences. "Rise" meshes research and story-telling to examine the forces behind our changing economy and they ways communities thrive. The book received the Washington Monthly's Political Book Award and was cited as a major breakthrough idea of 2004 by the Harvard Business Review. Chinese dance demonstration –
A 24-person dance group from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in Tianjin, China, will give a 45-minute demonstration and lecture beginning at 1:10 p.m., in 106 Forker Building. The dancers represent 56 minority groups and provide an overview of dance in their region. Lecture/Dialogue: The Missing Story of Ourselves –
Vivyan Adair, Ph.D., chair of the Elihu Root Peace Fund and associate professor women's studies at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, will discuss an exhibition of museum-quality color photographs and stories created by parents and/or students who have been poor and whose lives have changed through higher education. The exhibit, "The Missing Story of Ourselves: Poverty and the Promise of Higher Education," is on display through Sept. 28 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Gallery in the Round in Ames. Adair is director of the Access project, a pilot program that assists disadvantaged parents in their efforts to earn college degrees. Hosted by the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in conjunction with the new social justice concentration, the lecture and dialogue is open to the public and will run from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in 2019 Morrill Hall. |
