September 16 - November 20 Exhibit: The Ethnic Textile Traditions of Iowa Immigrants and Native Populations – Iowa's cultural diversity will be showcased through fabric and fiber arts in a new exhibit at Iowa State that opens on Wednesday, Sept. 16. "The Ethnic Textile Traditions of Iowa Immigrants and Native Populations" will be in the Mary Alice Gallery, 1015 Morrill Hall, through Friday, Nov. 20. The gallery is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More
   
November 09 CESMEE seminar led by Corey Drake – "A Good Start: Learning Trajectories Within and Beyond an Elementary Mathematics Methods Course," a seminar hosted by the Center for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education. Corey Drake, associate professor in curriculum and instruction at Iowa State University, will describe a series of current studies related to elementary teachers’ use of mathematics curriculum materials. She will explore the construct of curriculum capacity -- the intersection of teachers, materials, and contexts. She plans to use these studies to develop a proposed trajectory for pre-service teacher learning from and about curriculum materials. November 12 Meskwaki ribbonwork regalia demonstration – See the ornate ribbonwork details of Meskwaki regalia come alive through a lecture and demonstration by AESHM lecturer Brenda Ackerman on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 5 - 6 p.m. in 2088 LeBaron Hall. The lecture is presented in conjunction with the ISU Textiles and Clothing Museum exhibit, "Ethnic Textile Traditions of Iowa Immigrant and Native Populations." Anyone wishing to view the exhibit is invited to the Mary Alice Gallery, 1015 Morrill Hall, following the presentation. The exhibit is open Monday - Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. through November 20, 2009. December 10 Pease family lecture with Dr. Barry Franklin – Barry A. Franklin, Ph.D. is the 2009-10 Pease Family Scholar in kinesiology. On Thursday, Dec. 10, he will present a lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Campanile Room, with a short reception following the event. Dr. Franklin is director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Laboratories at William Beaumont Hospital, Mich. His areas of research interest include combining exercise physiology with cardiology, heart disease prevention and cardiovascular risk reduction, obesity and metabolism and lipids/lipoproteins.
