All Things Combined

February 9, 2005

With Hosts Jerry R. Thomas and Pamela J. White

Position Transition

Twenty-three staff members whose positions are affected by the combination received an interoffice communication from Carla Espinoza and Ellen Rasmussen late last week. The correspondence listed twelve P&S positions and six merit positions that have been designed for the new college, and outlined the process and timeline for applying for these positions. Only those affected by the combination are eligible to apply for the new P&S positions in the internally focused phase of the process.

The goal is to have P&S positions filled no later than April 1, 2005. Merit positions in the new college will be filled by following the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement and the Regents Merit Rules where applicable. All new positions will begin July 1, 2005.

New web site

Thanks to Cathy Curtis for developing our transition web site that is now live (but still being tweaked) at www.hs.iastate.edu

It can be viewed in Explorer, but not in Netscape.

Characteristics and Qualities forums

Around 30 individuals participated in forums held the past two days seeking input on desired characteristics and qualities of a dean for the new college. Discussion focused on describing the position and qualifications for the new dean. Faculty, staff, students and alumni participated. LAS Dean Michael Whiteford is chairing the Human Sciences Dean Search Committee.

Those unable to attend may submit suggestions before 4 p.m., Thursday, 10 February to:

HSdeansearch@iastate.edu

The Search Committee will use the feedback in preparing the position description of the Dean position.
