Provost Ben Allen announced earlier this week that Michael Whiteford, Dean of
the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has agreed to chair the 15-member
committee, which will hold its first meeting in early February. Details can

Departmental visits
Department chairs will visit all other departments in the new college at one
of their monthly meetings during spring semester to familiarize themselves with
activities in each area, to describe programs in their own department, and to
foster and enhance interdisciplinary interactions.
Internal Implementation Committees for College of Human Sciences
A number of committees relating to the combination have been established. Membership
and purpose follow:
Budget Committee
Tom Andre, Mary Gregoire, Morey MacDonald, Ruth MacDonald, John Schuh, Rick
Sharp, Jerry Thomas, Pam White
- Evaluate how the budget process will work in CHS
- Develop and conduct an exercise for allocation of new CHS funding
- Recommend how other issues are handled in CHS (e.g., Distance Education,
Technology)
Committee on Committees
Ann Marie Fiore, Doug King, Gary Phye, Cheryll Reitmeier
- Identify a ‘temporary’ committee structure for CHS that will
be operational for the 2005-06 Year
- Evaluate and suggest a permanent committee structure for CHS
- Begin a discussion of how the Promotion and Tenure process might work for
CHS
Research Support/Process Committee
Lee Alekel, Kathi Thomas, Ann Thompson, Mary Winter
- Develop a procedure for handling grant/contract proposals
- Suggest procedures for supporting grant/contract enhancement/development
- Recommend procedures for distributing indirect cost recovery in CHS
Space, Renovation & Moving
Mary Gregoire, Flo Hamrick, Bev Kruempel, Flo Hamrick, Roger Smith and 2 student
reps
- Create ideas for remodeling of new student services area, and all people
and functions to be housed in the area.
- Serve as link to a university committee chaired by Margie Tabor who will
cover specific planning and personnel moves associated with the space.
Communication & Marketing activities
Cathy Curtis, Darlene Fratzke, Betty Rasmussen, Sue Ellen Tuttle
- Coordinate calendars.
- Identify marketing and recruitment needs and develop appropriate materials.
- Develop a web site for the new college. Minimal information on site should
be available by the end of January. New information added as developed. Full
web site by July 1, 2005.
- Facilitate internal and external communication.
Graduation
Cathy Curtis, Erica Dutcher (Ed. Student Council), Suzanne Hendrich, Mary Linnenbrink
(FCS Council rep), Roger Smith, Linda Young
- Plan Fall and Spring graduations for new college, starting with December
2005.
- Include location, format, program, reception, etc.

Pam and Jerry will do their best to keep you informed of activities in the combination
process. On occasion they may need to call on some of you for help. Also, the
six department chairs should be well-informed about activities and you may provide
information/comments to them or Pam or Jerry.
