All Things Combined

January 12, 2005

With Hosts Jerry R. Thomas and Pamela J. White

White: The Board of Regents’ approval to combine CFCS and COE into the College of Human Sciences has sparked another round of activity.

Thomas: With this in mind, we think it is important to begin providing faculty and staff of both colleges with regular updates on the progress of the combination. We will do this via weekly (more or less) email messages with All Things Combined in the subject line.

White: The Cabinets from both colleges held a joint meeting earlier this week to identify and prioritize items that need to be taken care of…from communication and marketing to space needs to everything in between. A number of committees have been formulated, and we are beginning to ask people to work on specific tasks. Things are moving forward rapidly. More details about the implementation will be shared in this afternoon’s electronic edition of Inside Iowa State.

Thomas: Provost Benjamin Allen and Associate Provost Susan Carlson discussed plans to search for the new dean; they hope to have a committee in place by the end of the month. If things go well, it may be possible to have a new dean named by July 1.

Pam and Jerry will do their best to keep you informed of activities in the combination process. On occasion they may need to call on some of you for help. Also, the six department chairs should be well-informed about activities and you may provide information/comments to them or Pam or Jerry.
