Brotherson, Maude team up to explore skill sets in youngsters - Call it a research rewind - HDFS faculty members Susan Maude and Mary Jane Brotherson are leading a new study that examines the self-determination skills in young children with diverse abilities. While research on adults is readily available, this study will fill a gap in the knowledge, practices, and strategies for developing strong skill sets in young children. More.

Hira provides timely credit card advice - As the holiday shopping season ramps up, Tahira Hira is saying put the credit cards down. ISU researchers explore reasons why restaurant workers neglect safe food handling practices - An ISU research team has received a $600,000 USDA grant to identify learning and behavior issues that prevent restaurant workers from handling food safely even when they know better. Led by Susan Arendt, assistant professor of hospitality management and Families Extension specialist, the team will examine age-specific causes of the gap between knowledge and safe practices. More.
