Abstract

Researchers will study the integration of English learning activities and age-appropriate content in preschool classrooms. Sepcifically, the SIOP-P Project will be undertaken to address four goals:

  • adapt the SIOP for use in preschool classrooms
  • establish reliability for the SIOP-P
  • establish validity for the SIOP-P
  • learn about ECE teachers' perspectives on the challenges they face and resources they need to work effectiviely with young English language learners (ELLs).

This work is intended to position the team to secure external funding for expanded work on enhancing teacher effectivenss in working with ELLs. The team will submit a federal proposal in March for which the Intramural proposal will provide essential initial data on instrument effectiveness.
