Decommissioning of the former FCS College Exchange Server (ARES)
On December 31st, Information Technology Services (Durham) in conjunction
with the CHS ITS team will begin the final phase of a year long process to
decommission the former College of Family and Consumer Sciences Exchange
e-mail server, ARES. Notifications are presently being sent to those who
still have a mailbox hosted on this server. Because this decommissioning
process is not a reverse-able or restore-able process, it is imperative that
if you receive a notification that you follow the recommended options and
take action immediately. Options which are outlined in the the
notification include:
- Contact your departmental representative to have your account (mailbox) moved to an ITS (Durham) Exchange server. They will be able to submit the appropriate form(s) to have your mailbox moved. Please note that the cost for having a mailbox on an ITS server is $4/month.
- Have your netid@mail.hs.iastate.edu forwarded to Iowa State University's central webmail system, webmail.iastate.edu (this is not Outlook Web Access!). This system utilizes your netid@iastate.edu address and is free. You must be current faculty/staff/student or emeritus faculty in order to use webmail.iastate.edu. If you are a retired faculty or staff who would like to continue using your netid@iastate.edu e-mail, please contact your departmental representative in order to obtain a "sponsered" account.
- Elect to have your mailbox completely removed from the Exchange server. If you no longer need ISU e-mail, or do not utilize Exchange/Outlook at ISU, please call 515-294-4000 (4-4000 on campus) and inform the Solution Center you would like to have your "College of Human Sciences ARES e-mail account" removed. They will in turn notify the CHS ITS team to remove the mailbox.
