The College of Human Sciences was officially established on July 1, 2005, combining the former College of Education and the former College of Family and Consumer Sciences into one. The planning phase of the combination was completed in the fall of 2004. The implementation phase of the combination began in January 2005 and continued through June 30, 2005. Finalized changes are listed below.

Graduation events scheduled. The Fall 2005 College of Human Sciences Commencement Convocation has been set for Friday, December 23. The ceremony for those graduating with bachelor's degrees will begin at 4:30 p.m., in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. A reception for all graduating students, including those receiving masters and Ph.D.s, will begin around 6 p.m., or immediately following the undergraduate ceremony, in the first floor lobby of the Scheman Building. Students receiving advanced degrees will participate in the Graduate College Ceremony on Friday, December 23, at 8 p.m., in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium.

 

Administrative codes set. Effective July 1, 2005, the following codes will represent the College of Human Sciences for administrative purposes within the university.

  • H is the single-digit alpha designator for the College
  • H_Sci is the five-digit alpha designator for the College
  • 10 is the "main" for the College general funds
  • 28 is the "main" for College research funds
  • 89 is the "main" for College summer session funds
  • New department numbers have been assigned for each entity in the College
  • New org codes have been assigned for each entity in the College
  • New fund/accounts have been assigned for the College and departments
  • Resources for service departments and College of Human Sciences faculty and staff:
    • The Account Conversion table specifies old accounts and titles and their corresponding new accounts and titles for all fund types, including general fund, revolving funds, sponsored funds, etc.
    • The Department Codes table reflects the old and new organization codes and department codes for each unit within the new college (and where appropriate, the codes that are no longer needed and are, therefore, set to be deleted.) It includes a description of "main" and "sub" department codes, as a single unit may use multiple department codes to represent various uses. This report also lists the official name and abbreviations for each code.
    • The 70X Accounts table provides a more detailed account conversion list (containing such information as organization code, department code, recipient name and address) for general fund accounts only.

Deans named. Cheryl Achterberg has been named to serve as the innaugual dean of the College of Human Sciences, effective September 1. Pamela White will serve as interim dean until then. Three associate deans have been named, effectiver July 1:

Fundraising responsibilities shift. Beginning April 1, Brian Casey will serve as director of development for both the College of Education and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Lynda Jacobson, executive director development-gift planning and leadership gifts for the ISU Foundation, will serve as the second contact for development activities for both colleges.
