Honors Program

Overview of the Process

Admission


To be invited to apply to the College of Human Sciences Honors Program, you need to have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of a 3.35 or above.

  • If you are currently a member of the Freshman Honors Program, you should apply to the College of Human Sciences (CHS) Honors Program during the second semester of your freshman year.
  • If you are not in the Freshman Honors Program, BUT your GPA is 3.5 or above, you may apply to the CHS Honors Program at any time during the semester simply by filling out the University Honors Program Application

Requirements


In order to remain in good standing for continued membership, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.35 or higher
  • Attend a minimum of one CHS Honors Program Orientation Celebrations
  • Take one Honors seminar per year in the program (minimum of 2 seminars)
  • Take one Honors course outside your major (Engl 205H or 250H does count)
  • Take one Honors course inside your major (non-Honors courses can receive Honors designation with the permission of the instruction and by completing and turning in an Honors Credit Form)
  • Complete an Honors Project and present at a Poster Presentation

The Classification Officer for the College of Human Sciences and the Chair of the College Honors Program will review students' progress at the beginning of each semester. Should a student not make progress, he/she may be dropped from the program.


Orientation/Celebration


All students in the College of Human Sciences are invited to attend the Orientation/Celebrations held each semester. The purpose of these gatherings is to:

  • Welcome students into the program
  • Answer questions students may have about the program and its requirements
  • Allow students to get to know each other
  • Allow students to share their projects and experiences
  • Give faculty and staff an opportunity to meet the Honors students

Each student is required to attend at least one Orientation/Celebration shortly after being admitted to the program. These gatherings are usually held in mid-October and mid-March.
