Technology ResourcesThe College of Human Sciences has two central units that provide technical support and services to faculty and staff: Information Technology (CHS IT Services)
Office of Distance Education and Educational Technology (ODEET)
The following are technical services offered by the college and other campus units. If you require a service that is not listed, contact the unit most likely to offer the service to see if it can be provided. Accommodations are based on available resources, time, potential impact, sustainability, and whether the service is already provided by another ISU unit. Servers, accounts, and file storageAcquire ISU NetIDSupporting unit: ITS Contact: Solution Center, 294-4000 Cost: None Time: 10 minutes URL: Online registration form is at Account Services on the Web (ASW) Note: Must have an ISU student, faculty, or staff ID number in order to get netID. New netIDs will not be recognized by WebCT until the day after they have been made. NetID password problemsSupporting unit: ITS Contact: Solution Center, 294-4000, 192 Durham Hall Cost: None Time: 10 minutes URL: Online registration form is at Account Services on the Web (ASW) Note: If you call the Solution Center to have your password reset, they will ask you a few questions to verify your identity. Alternatively, go to their office in Durham and present a photo-bearing identification card. AccessPlus supportSupporting unit: ITS Contact: Solution Center, 294-4000, 192 Durham Hall Cost: None Time: 10 minutes URL: AccessPlus FAQs, Solution Center help form Note: Log into AccessPlus with your ISU student/faculty/staff card and associated password. This is not the same as your ISU computer netID and netID password. Contact the Solution Center if you need password assistance. Get U drive accessSupporting unit: CHS IT Services Cost: None Time: 1-3 days URL: U drive request form Note: U drive request form is for adding a folder or establishing access to a folder on the U drive. When you click the link to the form, you are asked to authenticate your identity by entering your netID and password. Increase P drive spaceSupporting unit: CHS IT Services Cost: $1/month/gb (in 5 gigabyte increments only) Time: 1-3 days URL: P drive request form Note: College faculty and staff each receive 5gb of server space for free. Use the form if you require additional space. When you click the link to the form, you are asked to authenticate your identity by entering your netID and password. Enter an account number to bill and specify how much extra space you want. Get administrative access to your office computerSupporting unit: CHS IT Services Cost: None Time: 1-3 days URL: Local Administrative Privileges form Note: Click the link to the form. Authenticate your identity by entering your netID and password. Explain why you need administrative rights and enter the computer’s service tag number. Software installation for office/research computers, peripheralsSupporting unit: CHS IT Services Cost: None Time: Varies based on support needed URL: HEAT request form Note: List of ISU licensed software. Some software can be ordered through the ISU Bookstore’s Tech CYte service. Complete a HEAT ticket for assistance installing software. To install software yourself, you will need to have local administrative privileges right for your computer. To request this, complete the Local Administrative Privileges form. To be eligible for CHS IT support, the computer must have been purchased by a department or program within the College of Human Sciences for academic use OR purchased by grant money, or other money within a project or program, for academic use. CHS IT does not provide technical support for personal computers or equipment purchased through institutions not affiliated with the college. Purchasing computersISU Bookstore - Tech CYte UnitSupporting Unit: ISU Bookstore - Tech Cyte, 294-8357, techcyte@iastate.edu Cost: None URL: Note: To place an order for a computer, a quote (or proposal) must be created from the desired vendor. Links to Dell and Apple computer vendors are listed on the TechCYte web page. Save the quote and either print the completed quote or take note of the quote number. Without this number, Tech CYte cannot place the order without reconfiguring the system and contacting you to approve the configuration. Please work with your departmental coordinator when creating equipment orders. For more information, see computer configurations. Technical support for office/research computers, peripheralsSupporting Unit: CHS IT Services Cost: None Time: Varies based on support needed URL: HEAT request form Note: CHS IT will do computer setup and configuration, software installation, hardware and software troubleshooting, virus removal, and assist with hardware repair. Provides assistance with server connections and general instructions about computer use. To be eligible for CHS IT support, the computer must have been purchased by a department or program within the College of Human Sciences for academic use OR purchased by grant money, or other money within a project or program, for academic use. CHS IT does not provide technical support for personal computers or equipment purchased through institutions not affiliated with the college. Temporary Computer Loaner PolicySupporting Unit: CHS IT Services Contact: CHS IT Director, Sly Upah, email: chs-loaner@iastate.edu Cost: None Time: None Note: Requests for temporary loaner computers will be directed to and evaluated by the IT Director. Availability of spare computers and parts as well as basis of need will be taken into account. Option to purchase may be discussed. Once a request is approved, a HEAT ticket will be generated for deployment.
