Faculty and Staff Awards

Outstanding Advisor Award

Purpose: To recognize outstanding performance as an undergraduate academic adviser in the College of Human Sciences.

Eligibility: Members of the faculty or professional staff who advise undergraduate students in the College.

Amount of Award: $500

Criteria: Evidence of a strong commitment to advising undergraduate students and effectiveness in promoting the development of advisees and students as early professionals.

Number of Awards:One per year

Criteria: Selection is based on evidence of exemplary service to students. Each department in CHS can place one name in nomination for this award each year. The nominating department is responsible for putting together an awards packet for the nominee that speaks to the following attributes:

  • knowledge of university, college and departmental policies/procedures and resources which assist students in reaching their career goals.
  • interest in and concern for students
  • involvement in student service-related committees at department, college and university levels
  • involvement in other student service-related activities (workshops, seminars, etc.) and/or professional organizations (membership, conference attendance, etc.) and opportunities that enhance advising.
  • years of dedicated service in advising.

Submit:

  1. Cover page.
  2. Table of Contents
  3. Nomination form
  4. Nomination statement from the department of no more than three pages that cites the reasons the person is being nominated for this award, the percentage of time that is specifically assigned to advising, and the number of undergraduate students advised.
  5. A copy of the nominee's current curriculum vitae/resume.
  6. Preface item 7 with a list of the names and positions of the letter writers and indicate their relevance to the nomination.
  7. Include at least two statements from (maximum one page each) from students who are in a position to comment on nominee's excellence in advising and contribution to the student's professional growth. These statements should be written specifically for the nomination.
  8. Statement from the nominee about her/his philosophy of advising.
  9. Include evaluative data related to the nominee's work, including students' evaluations
