Objective: The objective of the Faculty Award for Diversity Enhancement is to recognize outstanding performance in enhancing diversity in departmental, college, or university programs at Iowa State University.
Eligibility: Tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenured faculty with a minimum of one year of employment in Iowa State University’s College of Human Sciences.
Amount of Award: $500
Number of Awards: One per year, although the College of Human Sciences Honors and Awards Committee reserves the right to not select any recipient in a given year.
Criteria: Nominees will be evaluated on the basis of excellence in meeting the goals in the University and College strategic plans to enhance diversity.
Diversity refers to under-represented groups in our society or in aspects of our society. This includes diversity with respect to gender, race, ethnicity, age, culture, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, or disability. Diversity enhancement activities include, but are not limited to, efforts to integrate and promote diversity-enriching experiences into teaching, research, and outreach activities; the recruitment, training and retention of individuals from under-represented groups; the building of relationships with minority serving institutions; and outreach targeted to diverse groups in Iowa, the nation, or across the world.

- Nomination Form.
- Nomination statement consisting of no more than three pages summarizing major contributions in enhancing diversity in teaching, research, and/or outreach activities related to the College of Human Sciences. The purpose of the statement is to persuade those reviewing the nomination that the nominee is deserving of the award. Cite specific examples in which the person’s activities have served the University’s and College’s strategic plan goals with respect to diversity.
- A copy of the nominee’s current curriculum vitae.
- No more than three supporting letters from colleagues, clients, and/or students. A case in support of the nominee is probably strongest if at least one of the letters is from a colleague with a record in diversity enhancement or who can speak knowledgeably about diversity enhancement, and at least one of the letters is from a client or student.
