Objective: The objective of the Early Achievement in Outreach Award is to recognize an individual for evidence of outstanding performance in statewide leadership in extension and/or for professional practice and national recognition of contributions to outreach activities.
Eligibility: Faculty or staff member with not more than five years experience post-PhD. (or other appropriate terminal degree), excluding post-doctoral work, and a minimum of one year at Iowa State University's College Human Sciences.
Amount of Award: $500
Number of Awards: One per year, although the College of Human Sciences Honors and Awards Committee reserves the right to not select any recipient in a given year.
Criteria: Documented evidence of outstanding contributions to the university's outreach mission over an extended period of time, including testimony from peers and clients.

- Nomination statement of no more than three pages, signed by an individual with a reputation for outstanding outreach, describing why this person deserves this award. The purpose of this statement is to persuade those reviewing the nomination that this candidate is deserving of the award. Cite specific examples of relevant behaviors whenever possible.
- A copy of the nominee's current curriculum vitae.
- Preface items 6 and 7 with a list of the names and positions of the letter writers and an indication of their relevance to the nomination.
- Include at least two statements (maximum one page for each) from the nominee's colleagues who are in a position to comment on his or her extension/professional service activity. These statements should be written specifically for the nomination. Each statement should be in letter form on relevant letterhead and signed by the corresponding colleague.
- Include at least four letters from clientele and/or alumni supporting the nomination. These letters should be written specifically for the nomination. When applicable, each statement should be in letter form on relevant letterhead and signed by the corresponding colleague.
- Include evaluative data related to the nominee's work. This can include clientele ratings in regard to teaching as well as evaluative data dealing with impact of the faculty/staff work on clientele. Include data regarding the scope of the program (e.g., number of meetings held, number of people reached, number of publications prepared). This section should not be more than one page and should be presented in an easy to read format.
